My name is Jessica and I am so excited to have my blog go live! Ayubowan translates to “hello” and “may you live long and healthy” in Sinhala, the native tongue of Sri Lanka.
A lot of my inspiration comes from Sri Lankan cuisine and South Asian spices. I love fusing the spices, blending cultures, and experimenting with different flavor profiles to produce fabulous food. I am very excited to share recipes that I have developed myself as well as recipes that I have learned from my mother and grandmother.
Food has always been a big part of my life. When I was a young girl, my grandmother let me help her with the traditional Sri Lankan dishes by chopping vegetables and grinding spices. Each dish had its own story attached to it, usually about her mother (my great-grandmother) and other ancestors. Whenever I make a Sri Lankan-inspired meal or develop a new recipe, I feel connected to my heritage and culture. That has been and will continue to be a major draw for me.
Since I am married now, food has taken on even more importance! My husband, Rick, LOVES traditional Sri Lankan food as well as my other creative, flavorful dishes. I really needed to step up my game to please my man! Ha! But who is kidding who here? My stomach is just as important as his!
It has been nearly two years since Rick and I tied the knot, and I am so blessed and happy to share my life with him. He is a finance geek and has been instrumental in helping me with the development of this blog during his downtime. Rick is my biggest fan, right-hand man and CFO (Chief Food Officer).
The hubby just bought me a new DSLR camera – a must-have to capture the beauty of food! I have been practicing a lot, but please bear with me as I continue to fiddle around with it.
Thank you so much for visiting my site and I hope you follow me as I partake upon this culinary journey. I am so happy to share my recipes and culture with you! Feedback is always welcome and appreciated :)
